Question: are folktale-type stories/retellings in non-traditional settings accepted?

...only I have a sci-fi lesbian La Sylphide that wants finishing and a gender-swapped Crane Wife retelling I'm slowly doing as a mini-graphic novel. I might - hypothetically - attempt to write it in words for something like this, since the joint protagonist is deaf-mute and identifies as Cree despite being a bird sometimes...it is, however, set in modern-day Canada with some modern themes.
